This mid-century modern lake view home, with its simplistic style and natural shapes, was purchased by our client as a retirement home. Remaining loyal to the clean-edged architecture and integration with nature, the homeowners wanted to maintain the integrity of the design. They wanted an entire remodel to reflect their lifestyle while preserving the mid-century modern inspiration. Eden Custom Builders did just that by delivering a skillfully crafted, functional renovation.

The entire home was gutted and reconstructed. Wood from the original home was salvaged and reclaimed. The floor plan was improved, the hallway was moved, and special attention was given to the homeowner’s love of gardening, woodcrafting (new wood shop) and wine collecting. The result is a spacious, light-filled, contiguous, and distinctive home with contemporary comforts and practical features.

Kitchen: Remaining true to the curvature footprint of the house, the custom cabinets, wall, and kitchen island are all nestled in the radius. Each room flows into the next–the dining area to the kitchen to the living room.

Both the kitchen and living room, with floor to ceiling windows, open up onto the outdoor deck and gardens.

Curved Hallway: The curved hallway flows from the new master bedroom suite to the living areas. New hardwood floors (reclaimed oak from the original home) meet the clean lines from the original design to lend new distinction to this unique hallway.

Exterior: The curvature of the home’s exterior dictated the complementary layout of the interior. The new master bedroom suite addition caps the south curve and completes the home’s balance.

Living Room: The new living room flows from the kitchen and shares the lake and mountain view. The room is replete with modern touches such as the refinished (reclaimed oak from the original home) hardwood floor, wood burning stove and a custom component cabinet. The homes spaces are separate but blend together.

Master Bedroom: Newly constructed master bedroom suite has new floors (reclaimed wood from original home). The wrapped woodwork windows around the radius of the home look out to the lake and mountain view.

Master Bathroom: The new master bath combines every modern convenience with the classic mid-century modern clean lines. Slab countertop, walk-in shower and a luxurious sauna.

Wine Cellar: The lower level of the house is home to a custom designed wine room.
